Health Acupuncture

Help your body heal itself with acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly used forms of medicine in the world. Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is one of the most thoroughly researched, practiced, and respected forms of complementary medicine available.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, your health is determined by the quality and regularity of energy flow through the natural pathways of your body.  Acupuncture places sterile needles the size of a hair into specific points on the body to free any blockages, improve this flow and bring the body back into a more balanced state.

Numerous scientific studies have shown that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural pain killers, along with other beneficial brain chemicals.  It can also help trigger peripheral nerve activity and regrowth, the release of muscle and fascia tension and increase circulation.  In these ways, it can positively affect both the central and peripheral nervous systems, resulting in healing and calming the body and mind.

The many benefits of acupuncture include:

  • Acute and chronic pain reduction
  • Post-operative pain reduction
  • Stress and tension relief
  • Increased energy
  • Healthier digestion and elimination
  • A calmer mind with better focus
  • Greater sense of overall health and well-being

FAQs

Q:  How long does a Health Acupuncture treatment take?

A:  Your first visit involves an initial health assessment along with the treatment itself and takes up to one hour and 15 minutes.  Subsequent treatments normally last 45 minutes.

Q:  How many treatments will I need to feel better?

A:  Each patient is different and heals at their own pace.  In general, acute issues will respond to treatment more quickly, while chronic issues take longer.  At your first treatment, your acupuncturist will assess your individual situation and recommend a certain number of treatments to have, which will be adjusted as your body responds and heals.

Q:  What does it feel like when the needles are inserted?

A:  The experience varies from person to person.  Some people do not feel the needles at all, some will feel certain needles in sensitive areas and a few very individuals will feel more needles.  Patients describe the sensation as a pinch or a heavy feeling that then goes away in a few seconds.  It is not as intense as the pain of getting a shot, but is akin to a slight discomfort that dies away quickly.  If any needle continues to feel uncomfortable, your acupuncturist will adjust it or remove it.

Q:  What will I feel like after my acupuncture treatment?

A:  Almost all patients report feeling calm, relaxed and experiencing an overall sense of well-being after their treatment.  Many with pain issues notice significantly less pain and more mobility.  Patients often also say they sleep better after a treatment.

Q:  Can you work on more than one issue at a time?

A:  Yes, acupuncture can often very effectively address two main health issues at one time.  For optimal results, it is best to focus treatments on two issues and then move on to other issues after there is improvement.

Q:  Can I resume my daily activities after a treatment?

A:  Yes, but it is recommended that you refrain from working out, avoid alcohol and caffeine, drink plenty of fluids, avoid extremes in temperature and find time to relax to aid in the healing process.
